Stefan Achatz b50f315cbb HID: roccat: fix actual/startup profile sysfs attribute in koneplus
startup_profile and actual_profile didn't work as expected. Also
as the actual profile is persistent, the distinction between the
two was ambiguous, so both use the same code now and startup_profile
has been deprecated. Also the event is now propagated through
chardev. The userland tool has been updated to support this change.

Rafael J. Wysocki ddeb648708 PM / Hibernate: Add sysfs knob to control size of memory for drivers
Martin reports that on his system hibernation occasionally fails due
to the lack of memory, because the radeon driver apparently allocates
too much of it during the device freeze stage. It turns out that the
amount of memory allocated by radeon during hibernation (and
presumably during system suspend too) depends on the utilization of
the GPU (e.g. hibernating while there are two KDE 4 sessions with
compositing enabled causes radeon to allocate more memory than for
one KDE 4 session).

In principle it should be possible to use image_size to make the
memory preallocation mechanism free enough memory for the radeon
driver, but in practice it is not easy to guess the right value
because of the way the preallocation code uses image_size. For this
reason, it seems reasonable to allow users to control the amount of
memory reserved for driver allocations made after the hibernate
preallocation, which currently is constant and amounts to 1 MB.

Introduce a new sysfs file, /sys/power/reserved_size, whose value
will be used as the amount of memory to reserve for the
post-preallocation reservations made by device drivers, in bytes.
For backwards compatibility, set its default (and initial) value to
the currently used number (1 MB).

Rafał Miłecki 8369ae33b7 bcma: add Broadcom specific AMBA bus driver
Broadcom has released cards based on a new AMBA-based bus type. From a
programming point of view, this new bus type differs from AMBA and does
not use AMBA common registers. It also differs enough from SSB. We
decided that a new bus driver is needed to keep the code clean.

In its current form, the driver detects devices present on the bus and
registers them in the system. It allows registering BCMA drivers for
specified bus devices and provides them basic operations. The bus driver
itself includes two important bus managing drivers: ChipCommon core
driver and PCI(c) core driver. They are early used to allow correct
initialization.

Currently code is limited to supporting buses on PCI(e) devices, however
the driver is designed to be used also on other hosts. The host
abstraction layer is implemented and already used for PCI(e).

Support for PCI(e) hosts is working and seems to be stable (access to
80211 core was tested successfully on a few devices). We can still
optimize it by using some fixed windows, but this can be done later
without affecting any external code. Windows are just ranges in MMIO
used for accessing cores on the bus.

Mike Waychison e561bc4592 driver: Google Memory Console
This patch introduces the 'memconsole' driver.

Our firmware gives us access to an in-memory log of the firmware's
output. This gives us visibility in a data-center of headless machines
as to what the firmware is doing.

The memory console is found by the driver by finding a header block in
the EBDA. The buffer is then copied out, and is exported to userland in
the file /sys/firmware/log.

Mike Waychison 74c5b31c66 driver: Google EFI SMI
The "gsmi" driver bridges userland with firmware specific routines for
accessing hardware.

Currently, this driver only supports NVRAM and eventlog information.
Deprecated functions have been removed from the driver, though their
op-codes are left in place so that they are not re-used.

This driver works by trampolining into the firmware via the smi_command
outlined in the FADT table. Three protocols are used due to various
limitations over time, but all are included herein.

This driver should only ever load on Google boards, identified by either
a "Google, Inc." board vendor string in DMI, or "GOOGLE" in the OEM
strings of the FADT ACPI table. This logic happens in
gsmi_system_valid().

Ludwig Nussel 088ab0b4d8 kernel/ksysfs.c: expose file_caps_enabled in sysfs
A kernel booted with no_file_caps allows to install fscaps on a binary
but doesn't actually honor the fscaps when running the binary. Userspace
currently has no sane way to determine whether installing fscaps
actually has any effect. Since parsing /proc/cmdline is fragile this
patch exposes the current setting (1 or 0) via /sys/kernel/fscaps

Corentin Chary e12e6d94db eeepc-wmi: asus generic asus-wmi.ko module
New Asus notebooks are using a WMI device similar to
the one used in Eee PCs. Since we don't want to load
eeepc-wmi module on Asus notebooks, and we want to
keep the eeepc-wmi module for backward compatibility,
this patch introduce a new module, named asus-wmi, that
will be used by eeepc-wmi and the new Asus Notebook WMI
Driver.

eeepc-wmi's input device strings (device name and phys)
are kept, but rfkill and led names are changed (s/eeepc/asus/).
This should not break anything since rfkill are used by type or
index, not by name, and the eeepc::touchpad led wasn't working
correctly before 2.6.39 anyway.

Chuanxiao Dong 709de99df0 mmc: export eMMC4.4 enhanced area details to sysfs
Enhanced area feature is a new feature defined in eMMC4.4 standard. This
user data area provides higher performance/reliability, at the expense
of using twice the effective media space due to the area using SLC.

The MMC driver now reads out the enhanced area offset and size and adds
them to the device attributes in sysfs. Enabling the enhanced area can
only be done once, and should be done in manufacturing. To use this
feature, bit ERASE_GRP_DEF should also be set.

Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-devices-mmc describes the two new
attributes.

Rafael J. Wysocki cb8f51bdad PM: Do not create wakeup sysfs files for devices that cannot wake up
Currently, wakeup sysfs attributes are created for all devices,
regardless of whether or not they are wakeup-capable. This is
excessive and complicates wakeup device identification from user
space (i.e. to identify wakeup-capable devices user space has to read
/sys/devices/.../power/wakeup for all devices and see if they are not
empty).

Fix this issue by avoiding to create wakeup sysfs files for devices
that cannot wake up the system from sleep states (i.e. whose
power.can_wakeup flags are unset during registration) and modify
device_set_wakeup_capable() so that it adds (or removes) the relevant
sysfs attributes if a device's wakeup capability status is changed.

Stephen M. Cameron 957c2ec558 cciss: export resettable host attribute
This attribute, requested by Redhat, allows kexec-tools to know
whether the controller can honor the reset_devices kernel parameter
and actually reset the controller. For kdump to work properly it
is necessary that the reset_devices parameter be honored. This
attribute enables kexec-tools to warn the user if they attempt to

The communication between ST KIM and UIM was interfaced

Move the interface to a simpler less abusive sysfs entry

Shared transport driver would now read the UART details
originally received by bootloader or firmware as platform
data.
The data read will be shared over sysfs entries for the user-space

Marc Kleine-Budde 3a5655a5b5 can: at91_can: make can_id of mailbox 0 configurable
Due to a chip bug (errata 50.2.6.3 & 50.3.5.3 in
"AT91SAM9263 Preliminary 6249H-ATARM-27-Jul-09") the contents of mailbox
0 may be send under certain conditions (even if disabled or in rx mode).

The workaround in the errata suggests not to use the mailbox and load it
with an unused identifier.

This patch implements the second part of the workaround. A sysfs entry
"mb0_id" is introduced. While the interface is down it can be used to
configure the can_id of mailbox 0. The default value id 0x7ff.

In order to use an extended can_id add the CAN_EFF_FLAG (0x80000000U)
to the can_id. Example:

- standard id 0x7ff:
echo 0x7ff > /sys/class/net/can0/mb0_id

- extended id 0x1fffffff:
echo 0x9fffffff > /sys/class/net/can0/mb0_id

Masayuki Ohtak cf4ece5346 add Packet hub driver for Topcliff Platform controller hub
Packet hub driver of Topcliff PCH

Topcliff PCH is the platform controller hub that is going to be used in
Intel's upcoming general embedded platform. All IO peripherals in
Topcliff PCH are actually devices sitting on AMBA bus. Packet hub is
a special converter device in Topcliff PCH that translate AMBA transactions
to PCI Express transactions and vice versa. Thus packet hub helps present
all IO peripherals in Topcliff PCH as PCIE devices to IA system.
Topcliff PCH has MAC address and Option ROM data.
These data are in SROM which is connected to PCIE bus.
Packet hub driver of Topcliff PCH can access MAC address and Option ROM data in
SROM via sysfs interface.

Vernon Mauery 35f0ce032b IBM Real-Time "SMI Free" mode driver -v7
After a period of RFC for this driver, I think it is ready
for inclusion in the platform-driver-x86 tree, hopefully to
be staged in the next merge window into Linus's tree.

--Vernon

------------------------------------------------------------

IBM Real-Time "SMI Free" mode driver

This driver supports the Real-Time Linux (RTL) BIOS feature.
The RTL feature allows non-fatal System Management Interrupts
(SMIs) to be disabled on supported IBM platforms and is
intended to be coupled with a user-space daemon to monitor
the hardware in a way that can be prioritized and scheduled
to better suit the requirements for the system.

The Device is presented as a special "_RTL_" table to the OS
in the Extended BIOS Data Area. There is a simple protocol
for entering and exiting the mode at runtime. This driver
creates a simple sysfs interface to allow a simple entry and
exit from RTL mode in the UFI/BIOS.

Since the driver is specific to IBM SystemX hardware (x86-
based servers) it only builds on x86 builds. To reduce the
risk of loading on the wrong hardware, the module uses DMI
information and checks a list of servers that are known to
work.

James Hogan d33ac60bea PM: Add sysfs attr for rechecking dev hash from PM trace
If the device which fails to resume is part of a loadable kernel module
it won't be checked at startup against the magic number stored in the
RTC.

Add a read-only sysfs attribute /sys/power/pm_trace_dev_match which
contains a list of newline separated devices (usually just the one)
which currently match the last magic number. This allows the device
which is failing to resume to be found after the modules are loaded
again.

Alan Stern 15bcb91d7e PM / Runtime: Implement autosuspend support
This patch (as1427) implements the "autosuspend" facility for runtime
PM. A few new fields are added to the dev_pm_info structure and
several new PM helper functions are defined, for telling the PM core
whether or not a device uses autosuspend, for setting the autosuspend
delay, and for marking periods of device activity.

Drivers that do not want to use autosuspend can continue using the
same helper functions as before; their behavior will not change. In
addition, drivers supporting autosuspend can also call the old helper
functions to get the old behavior.

The details are all explained in Documentation/power/runtime_pm.txt
and Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-devices-power.

Rafael J. Wysocki 074037ec79 PM / Wakeup: Introduce wakeup source objects and event statistics (v3)
Introduce struct wakeup_source for representing system wakeup sources
within the kernel and for collecting statistics related to them.
Make the recently introduced helper functions pm_wakeup_event(),
pm_stay_awake() and pm_relax() use struct wakeup_source objects
internally, so that wakeup statistics associated with wakeup devices
can be collected and reported in a consistent way (the definition of
pm_relax() is changed, which is harmless, because this function is
not called directly by anyone yet). Introduce new wakeup-related
sysfs device attributes in /sys/devices/.../power for reporting the
device wakeup statistics.

Change the global wakeup events counters event_count and
events_in_progress into atomic variables, so that it is not necessary
to acquire a global spinlock in pm_wakeup_event(), pm_stay_awake()
and pm_relax(), which should allow us to avoid lock contention in
these functions on SMP systems with many wakeup devices.

Christoph Mair 5bf1d290b5 drivers/misc: support for the pressure sensor BMP085 from Bosch Sensortec
This driver adds support for the BMP085 digital pressure sensor from Bosch
Sensortec. It exposes a sysfs api to userspace where pressure and
temperature measurement results can be read from the pressure0_input and
temp0_input file. The chip is able to calculate the average of up to
eight samples to increase the accuracy. This feature can be controlled by
writing to the oversampling file.

The BMP085 digital pressure sensor can measure ambient air pressure and
temperature. Both values can be obtained from sysfs files. The pressure
is measured by reading from pressure0_input. Valid values range from
30000 to 110000 pascal with a resolution of 1 pascal (=0.01 millibar).

temp0_input holds the current temperature in degree celsius, multiplied by
10. This results in a resolution of a tenth degree celsius. Values range
from -400 to 850.

To increase the accuracy, this chip can calculate the average of 1, 2, 4
or 8 samples. This behavior is controlled through the oversampling sysfs
file. Two to the power of the value written to that file specifies how
many samples will be used. Valid values: 0..3.

Some of the addresses date as far far back as 1995 etc... so searching became a bit difficult,
the best way to deal with these is to use web.archive.org to locate these addresses that are outdated.
Now there are also some addresses pointing to .spec files some are located, but some(after searching

Rafael J. Wysocki c125e96f04 PM: Make it possible to avoid races between wakeup and system sleep
One of the arguments during the suspend blockers discussion was that
the mainline kernel didn't contain any mechanisms making it possible
to avoid races between wakeup and system suspend.

Generally, there are two problems in that area. First, if a wakeup
event occurs exactly when /sys/power/state is being written to, it
may be delivered to user space right before the freezer kicks in, so
the user space consumer of the event may not be able to process it
before the system is suspended. Second, if a wakeup event occurs
after user space has been frozen, it is not generally guaranteed that
the ongoing transition of the system into a sleep state will be
aborted.

To address these issues introduce a new global sysfs attribute,
/sys/power/wakeup_count, associated with a running counter of wakeup
events and three helper functions, pm_stay_awake(), pm_relax(), and
pm_wakeup_event(), that may be used by kernel subsystems to control
the behavior of this attribute and to request the PM core to abort
system transitions into a sleep state already in progress.

The /sys/power/wakeup_count file may be read from or written to by
user space. Reads will always succeed (unless interrupted by a
signal) and return the current value of the wakeup events counter.
Writes, however, will only succeed if the written number is equal to
the current value of the wakeup events counter. If a write is
successful, it will cause the kernel to save the current value of the
wakeup events counter and to abort the subsequent system transition
into a sleep state if any wakeup events are reported after the write
has returned.

[The assumption is that before writing to /sys/power/state user space
will first read from /sys/power/wakeup_count. Next, user space
consumers of wakeup events will have a chance to acknowledge or
veto the upcoming system transition to a sleep state. Finally, if
the transition is allowed to proceed, /sys/power/wakeup_count will
be written to and if that succeeds, /sys/power/state will be written
to as well. Still, if any wakeup events are reported to the PM core
by kernel subsystems after that point, the transition will be
aborted.]

Additionally, put a wakeup events counter into struct dev_pm_info and
make these per-device wakeup event counters available via sysfs,
so that it's possible to check the activity of various wakeup event
sources within the kernel.

To illustrate how subsystems can use pm_wakeup_event(), make the
low-level PCI runtime PM wakeup-handling code use it.

ones, and kmemtrace has been superseded by kmem trace events
and perf-kmem, so we remove it.

Feng Tang dce80a5626 SFI: add sysfs interface for SFI tables.
Analogous to ACPI's /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/...

create /sys/firmware/sfi/tables/

The tables are primariy for the kernel,
but sometimes it is useful for user-space to be
able to read them.

Mel Gorman ed4a6d7f06 mm: compaction: add /sys trigger for per-node memory compaction
Add a per-node sysfs file called compact. When the file is written to,
each zone in that node is compacted. The intention that this would be
used by something like a job scheduler in a batch system before a job
starts so that the job can allocate the maximum number of hugepages
without significant start-up cost.
